Oak Titmouse in Laguna Mountains

The Oak Titmouse is a typical, if uncommon, bird of California's oak and oak/pine woodlands. In fact, it is nearly a California endemic. It is found barely north into SW Oregon, and barely south into Baja California.

The husky "zhick-a-dee" call of Oak Titmouses is not too different than the "tsick-a-dee-dee" call of Mountain Chickadees, and both are found in the foothills and mountains of San Diego. The doubled whistled notes of the titmouse is different from the clear descending "wee-pee-per" whistled song of Mountain Chickadee, though.
