At the edge of the town of Fallbrook is a small hiking park called the Los Jilgueros Preserve (
eBird Hotspot here). The preserve follows a little creek alongside South Mission Rd. There is a pond or two and some drier upland areas and oaks.
It wouldn't be a birding destination in itself--it's smaller and is not known for unusual birds. But it's worth a stop for an hour or two if you are in the Fallbrook/Bonsal area.
