Pacific-slope Flycatchers at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery

Pacific-slope Flycatchers are the most abundant migrant flycatchers detected in San Diego County. They are a member of the look-a-like Empidonax group: small, generally greenish, with an eye ring and two white wing bars. In the case of this species, medium-long primary extension past the secondary stack, all-orange under mandible, teardrop shaped eye ring, and yellow throat and under parts make identification straight-forward, but not necessarily easy. [We won't discuss Cordilleran Flycatcher of the Rocky Mountain region, differentiated in the field only by the male's position note. Bring back Western Flycatcher!]
