Pygmy Nuthatch is a tiny nuthatch found in western North America. It is restricted to large-coned pines: Ponderosa, Jeffery, and Coulter pines in southern California. These are my favorite forests. These active little birds with piping calls are more frequent in the Cuyamaca and Laguna Mountains of San Diego County, than Palomar Mountain.
